Computational Complexity Conference

Travel Allowances

A number of travel allowances will be provided for attending the 2023 Computational Complexity Conference (CCC’23).

Eligibility: Students from U.S. universities are eligible to apply.

The travel allowances are supported by the U.S. National Science Foundation through award CCF-2326701.

Application Process

Applications should be made through the online application form on this webpage (see below). Upon successful submission of the application form, a confirmation email will be sent to the applicant. An email will also be sent to the person listed as faculty advisor or post-doctoral mentor, with a link to a form for a supporting statement. The supporting statement must be sent through this form, and must indicate availability of any other travel funds. For full consideration, the complete application, including the statement of support from the advisor or mentor, should be submitted no later than May 31, 2023. Applicants will be notified of the result of their application by June 7, 2023. For questions, please contact the chair of the selection committee, Ben Rossman.

Selection Process

The information provided in the application will be used to prioritize the awards. Preference will be given to applicants who do not have other sources of funding, who make an effort to keep costs down, e.g., by sharing a hotel room, and who are from underrepresented groups. The selection will be made by the CCF Awards Committee.

Reimbursement Process

The allowances are intended to help cover certain expenses associated with attending the tutorial or conference. Details on the reimbursement process will be sent to successful applicants after the decisions have been made. Please save all original receipts, including email records, and be aware of the following:

  • Only travel to and from the tutorial or the conference, registration fees, and local expenses can be reimbursed.
  • An explanation will be required if you are not traveling directly from your home institution.
  • Reimbursement for the conference registration is limited to the early registration fee.
  • Reimbursement for local expenses is limited to the cost of moderately-priced hotel accommodation from July 16 through July 19.

The following restrictions apply to travel allowances:

  • Only flights that are compliant with the "Fly America Act" can be reimbursed. This means that the itinerary should be a round trip to the U.K. that is ticketed on one or more U.S. flag air carriers, or foreign carriers identified under an "Open Sky" exception. The latter category includes carriers from member states of the European Community (EU + Norway and Iceland), but excludes U.K. carriers such as British Airways.
  • Food expenses are not reimbursable.

The applicable restrictions will be included in the notice of acceptance.
