On May 16, 2014, after many deliberations within the committee and with the entire community of scholars engaged with the Conference on Computational Complexity (CCC), the steering committee of CCC decided to pursue a separation from IEEE and the formation of an independent organization to run the conference. The rationale for the separation and the process leading to this decision is explained in an open letter from the CCC Steering Committee.
We, the undersigned, support the move of the Computational Complexity Conference away from IEEE towards an independent organization.
In particular, we support the idea that the primary conference in the field should be owned by the computational complexity community, that is, by those who contribute intellectually to the conference - through their research, their reviews of each other's research, and their contribution of time to organize and run the conference. We also support the effort to provide free open-access to the proceedings of the conference, and hope the move will help realize this goal. We thank members of the community who volunteered to assist with the organization and running of past and future conferences, and we encourage more support from the community as it undertakes steps towards achieving independence.
